Biography
Johnny Flores was born and raised in South Texas. From an early age, he was shaped by values of service, integrity, and commitment.
His father, a U.S. Army combat veteran and postal worker, and his mother, a dedicated nurse, instilled in him the importance of hard work and giving back.
Johnny’s journey, from student-athlete to educator, public servant, and family man, reflects his unwavering dedication to uplifting others and serving the community. As a lifelong advocate for education and equity, Johnny brings real experience and a deep understanding of the people he serves. He’s committed to creating a Hays County where families can thrive and children can feel safe, supported, and proud to call home
Background
Johnny comes from a working-class family and understands the challenges that many in our community face.
After earning a baseball scholarship and pursuing a music career in his 20s, Johnny returned to college and earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in political science from Texas State University. While there, he worked as a graduate and teaching assistant, even teaching his own American Government course. He later became a middle school and high school teacher, where his passion for educating and mentoring youth grew stronger. Now living in Kyle with his wife and two children, Johnny continues to serve his community through volunteerism, education, and leadership roles
Education
Johnny earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Political Science from Texas State University.
As a graduate assistant and teaching assistant, he was trusted to lead courses and mentor students, an experience that sharpened his ability to listen, lead, and educate. Today, Johnny teaches history and civics to 7th–9th graders, where he sees firsthand the importance of community investment in education, equity, and opportunity

Vice President of the Kyle Radio Board
Member of the Hays County Historical Commission
Through these roles, Johnny champions sustainable growth, affordability, and public safety across Hays County
Passing equitable policies in education
Johnny has led efforts to address equity gaps in District 2 schools, advocating for targeted resources to support Latino students and economically disadvantaged communities.
Standing up for inclusion and transparency
Johnny has been a vocal opponent of book bans, a proponent of safe and inclusive schools, and an advocate for public policies rooted in accountability and compassion.
